Auction & Fun Weekend

Please help our appeal by donating what you can

We would like to thank everyone who contributed in any way to our hugely successful charity auction and fun weekend…Thanks to Kick FM and Ridgeway Volkswagen, Newbury the weekend was a huge success, bringing the fund and the lifesaving work the cars do to the attention of the public as well as local businesses and organisations.

The great news is we raised enough money to put another car on the road!

On Saturday 24th June at 8am Chris and Charlotte launched the WBRRC charity auction live on the Kick FM breakfast show – the first auction lots to be talked about were the shirts which Theo Walcott (our favourite local hero and the Fund’s new President) had generously donated just before going to Germany with the England World Cup Squad.

Then, at 9am, in the glorious sunshine, Newbury Building Society opened its doors for donations and for James from Kick FM to join in the fun in Newbury.  Meanwhile, the Fund’s Ambassador, Neale Marney and WBRRC volunteer driver Paul Mitchell and Newbury Building Society West Berks Rapid Response Car parked in the High Street and handed out balloons to children and information to their parents.

A huge number of people went into the Newbury Building Society to give a donation – and the ‘phones at the Kick FM studios were constantly buzzing with bids for the auction.

A call to the studio first thing on Sunday, 24th June started the day with a cheer and a round of applause!  Bob ‘The Builder’ Colbourne of RGC Building Supplies Ltd and his subcontractors Ian Collins Electrical and Duncan Sadler Plumbing and Heating became the funds latest Superheroes with a donation of £10,000!

Sunday might not have been as hot outside, but in the studio the ‘phones were red hot as a series of ‘mini-bidding-wars’ took place for some of the lots, while the fabulous, bargain, quick lots just steamed out the window!  The ‘phones were closed at 3:50pm (in time for the footie!) and we were able to announce that the auction and donations had raised in excess of £5,000.

The Theo Shirts were of course a highlight of the weekend.  However, a luxury sailing trip from Ultimate Days Out, fabulous golf and spa at Donnington Valley Hotel, Spa and Golf course, romantic night at the Bear in Hungerford and dinner at the Vineyard were much sought after  The auction also included some great bargain instant lots, such as Breakfast at the Tutti Pole, a balloon trip, a pile of cream cakes from Hethertons, a wellbeing package from Nature’s Corner; as well as some more unusual lots, such as Ab-Fab flowers for a year, a gentleman’s pamper from the Gentleman’s Shop and a home spruce up from Jo’s Spotless and RGC builders.

The fabulous news of the weekend is that with the generous donation of Bob Colbourne and his colleagues made, the WBRRC will be asking Ridgeway Volkswagen, Newbury to help put another car on the road!.
